Bears; Where They Fought

Bears; Where They Fought [PDF]

This is a short (36 pages on my Nook) essay on the history of the Swiftcurrent Valley in Glacier National Park. It is a wonderful treatise on the origins of the valley, part of the national park established later. I learned a little about the Piegan/Blackfoot tribe, a camp which was infected w/smallpox and eventually slaughtered by the troop of Major Eugene Baker. Eventually 1/2 of the Blackfoot population was destroyed and the rest were forced to sell their land for 1/2 of what they wanted.

I enjoyed this essay, heartbroken as always at the treatment of Native people by so-called "civilized people". It is an essay filled with a great deal of information in an easily readable format. I purchased it for $.99 in the Nook store.
